Materials about Ettore Majorana, collected by Erasmo Recami, 1915-1982.

Notebooks; manuscripts; correspondence; clippings; photographs. The notebooks and manuscripts (1927-1938) contain published and unpublished calculations and writings on such topics as Dirac's matrices, Lorentz groups, electron theory, relativity and particle theory, the relationship of classical and quantum mechanics, and radioactivity. The correspondence (1915-1938) is of the Majorana family; the correspondence (1964-1976) consists of responses of various physicists to Recami documenting Majorana's career. The clippings (1928-1938 and 1964-1982) include copies of title pages of several of his publications, as well as biographical material on Majorana from Italian newspapers. The photographs are of Majorana and family. Correspondents include: Edoardo Amaldi, Antonio Carrelli, Giuseppe Cocconi, Tullio Derenzini, Léon Rosenfeld, and Werner Heisenberg.

Majorana was an Italian physicist specializing in atomic spectroscopy. He developed the preliminary theories to Heisenberg's theory, performed theoretical work on neutrino masses, and experimental research on gravitational waves. The collector of these items, Recami, is also an Italian physicist (atomic physics, elementary particles), and was Professor of theoretical physics, Università di Napoli, from 1937 to 1938.
